Alice V. (Skinner) Levings

Alice V. Levings


Mrs. Alice V. Levings, 74 of Route 4, died early this morning in Enid Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Born Sept 14, 1902 in Ponca City, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis N Skinner.  She moved as a small girl with her parents to Bliss, now Marland and was educated in Rine, Bressie and Marland schools.

She and George Levings were married June 4, 1921 in Perry.  He died in 1969.

Surviving Mrs. Levings are five sons, George A, Chickasha; Richard W and Frank D, both of Fort Worth; Louis D, Marland and Fred L, Garber; seven daughters, Mrs. Francis [Anna] Thornton, Ponca City; Mrs. Charles [Cordelia] Cooper, Mesquite, Texas; Mrs. Ray [Julia] Fooks, San Jose, Calif; and Mrs. Rollie [Bessie] Foster, Nowata; Mrs. Herman [Helen] Hammontree, Cartersville, Okla; Mrs. Warren [Mildred] Hutton and Mrs. Allen [JoAnn] Sorenson both of Tulsa; three sisters, Mrs. Stanley Hand, Ponca City and Mrs. Ida Vineyard and Mrs. Bill Kirkendall, both of Marland, also 33 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Levings was preceded in death by a son, one brother, three sisters and a grandson.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. in Garber Christian Church with the Rev. James Altfilish officiating.   Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery here under direction of Gill-Lessert Funeral Home.

A memorial has been established in Mrs. Levings name to the Garber Christian Church and contributions may be made through the church office.


Some of the same information as above with the addition of: Casket bearers will be grandsons of the deceased: Orville Thornton, George Thornton, Donny Hargraves, Russell Levings, Mike Levings and Darrel Foster.

Some of the family members will be at the Francis Thornton home, Route 4 [South Waverly extension]; others will be in Garber.
