Eugene Shaffer

Gone To Rest

Death, that most dreaded of all messengers, robs us one by one, of our earthly friends and kindred’s, and the ordeal through which we all must pass, ere we would see GOD, has entered our midst and claimed as his own.
Eugene Shaffer, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Shaffer, was born December 26, 1880, died July 3, 1902. Aged 13 years, 5 months, 7 days.
Funeral services were entered at the Christian church Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock, by Rev. Robinson, of Newkirk, after which the remains were conveyed to the Banner cemetery six miles southeast of the city, followed by a large concourse of people, where all that was mortal of Eugene was laid rest to await the call of the savior.
Eugene was an exemplary boy, always doing that which he thought to be right, thereby setting an example of Christian boyhood, worthy of being followed by all of his companions and acquaintances. It is sad indeed, that one so young in life, pare in motives, true in his devotions and firm in his aims, should be called from are midst in so short a time, and almost without a moments warning. That he is gone, never to return. that most dreaded disease, eater, has tightened it’s deadly coils around and extinguished forever from this world of sin and strife, that most precious of eternal gifts, life. Yet he is not dead, he sleepeth.
The betrayed family has the sympathy of the entire neighborhood in their great sorrow and affliction
