MARLAND RESIDENT EVERETT SHULTZ DIES

Everett Shultz, 67, Marland, a former rodeo contestant and breeder of Thoroughbred horses, died unexpectedly Saturday. He became ill at the Marland Café and was rushed to the Grandview Osteopathic Hospital here, where he died shortly after being admitted on Jan. 20.

Shultz was born Oct. 15, 1894 at Sun City, Kan. And came to Oklahoma in 1904, living for a number of years at Freedom. He had made his home in and around Marland since 1922.

He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion.

Following a leg injury he eased his work in rodeo and took to breeding horses and in 1951 won the Oklahoma City Derby.

Shultz was married on Nov. 9, 1931 to Dora Rummage at Perry. She died Dec. 17, 1953.

Surviving Shultz is a daughter, Mrs. Mary McClelland, Wixon, Michigan; 12 grandchildren; a brother, Charlie; four uncles, Walter, Guy and Verling of Marland and Troy, Kankakee, Illinois; an aunt, Mrs. Rex White, Los Angeles, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Marland High School with the Rev. R. O. Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Ponca City IOOF Cemetery under direction of the Miles funeral Home.
